  • Biographical Presentation

    Das baltische Adelsgeschlecht Zoege (Soye) nahm in Kurland und Estland im 17. Jh., in Livland im 18. Jh. den Namen „Manteuffel“ an, der allmählich zum Hauptnamen wurde. Manche führten den Namen „Zoege v. Manteuffel“. Zu nennen sind die Landespolitiker (v. M. gen. S.) Christoph Levin (1725–1802), Karl (1820–84) und Karl (1872–1948, s. Wi. 1935). Andreas Gf. v. M. (1714-68) war russ. Generalleutnant. Unter dem Namen „Zoege v. M.“ wurden bekannt: Otto (1822–89), Maler (s. ThB), Nicolai (1827–89), russ. Generalleutnant, Günther (1850–1923), Landespolitiker, Werner (1857–1926), Professor der Chirurgie in Dorpat (s. Fischer), und Kurt (1881–1941), Kunsthistoriker (s. Kürschner, Gel.-Kal. 1926–41). Gert Zoege v. M.| (1903–64) befaßte sich mit der Konstruktion von Flugzeugnavigationsgeräten, insbes. von Kreiselkompassen. Bei den Askania-Werken in Berlin und den Siemens-Werken in München entwickelte er pneumatisch und elektrisch angetriebene Kreiselkompasse vom einfachen Segelflugzeug-Wendeanzeiger bis zum Künstlichen Horizont, Trommellot und Sonden-Kompaß. An der ersten von Askania gebauten Dreikreisel-Plattform, die später für die Trägheitsortung diente, hatte er entscheidenden Anteil.
