    Tafinger: Johann Andreas T., württembergischer Theologe und Pädagoge, † 1804. T. wurde am 18. Mai 1728 zu Ludwigsburg als Sohn des Prälaten Wilh. Gottl. Tafinger geboren. In seiner Vaterstadt und in Stuttgart vorgebildet, studirte er seit 1744 zu Tübingen im theologischen Stift, wurde 1746 Magister der Philosophie und 1750 Repetent am Stift. 1752 und 1753 war er auf Reisen in Frankreich, Holland, England und Deutschland. 1753 begann er eine erfolgreiche Thätigkeit als Professor der Religion, der griechischen und hebräischen Sprache an dem Gymnasium zu Stuttgart. 1783 erhielt er das Rectorat dieser Anstalt und wirkte zugleich als Pädagogiarch der lateinischen Schulen in dem Lande unter der Staig. 1796 wurde er herzoglich württembergischer Rat und Abt des Klosters Hirsau und starb am 2. August 1804. Von verschiedenen gelehrten Gesellschaften waren ihm während seines Lebens mannichfache Auszeichnungen zu theil geworden, wie z. B. ihn die Berliner Akademie der Wissenschaften schon 1753 zu ihrem correspondirenden Mitgliede ernannt hatte.

Jenensi consecrata“ (Stuttg. 1756) und verschiedene andere Gedichte; „De praestantia institutorum scholasticorum in Wirtembergia" (Stuttg. 1759); „Oratio natalitia de harmonia collegiorum Anglicanorum cum Seminario theologico Tubingensi" (Tubing. 1759); „De cautelis in itineribus literatis observandis" (idid. 1766, 4°); „De incomparabilissimo patriae patre in incendiis Würtembergicis etc." (1772); „De solemni apud veteres natalium celebratione“ (Stuttg. 1772, 4°); „De salutari temperamentorum moderatione“ (ibid. 1781); „Oratio metrica, cum Rectoris officio valediceret“ (ibid. 1796).
