    Bont: Jean de B., niederländischer Jurist und Staatsmann (als ersterer unter dem Namen Bontius bekannt), stand Anfangs des 15. Jahrhunderts im Dienst der Herzöge von Brabant und war namentlich als Mitglied des Raths und als Gesandter in Constanz, Rom und Paris thätig. Wie alle seine Fachgenossen gehörte er zu der autokratischen Partei, welche vom Adel und von den Ständen Brabants heftig angefochten, 1425 bei der Brüsseler Revolution zum Falle gebracht und vom schwachen Herzog Johann schmählich aufgegeben ward. Zwar ernannte ihn dessen Nachfolger Philipp von St. Pol zum Kanzler, doch nur auf kurze Zeit. Zum zweiten Male durch Einfluß der Stände abgesetzt, lebte er noch bis 1453 als Canonicus, ohne wieder Einfluß auf die Geschäfte zu gewinnen.
