  • Biographical Presentation

    Witdoeck: Jan W., Kupferstecher, wurde im J. 1615 (nach anderen Angaben 1604) in Antwerpen geboren. Er war Schüler des C. Schat und kam später in das Atelier von Rubens, nach dessen Compositionen er viele Blätter stach. Doch vollendete er nur einen Stich, die Aufrichtung des Kreuzes, noch zu Lebzeiten Rubens' im J. 1638. Es ist sein bedeutendstes Werk. Die letzte Jahreszahl auf seinen Blättern ist 1639. Man weiß nicht, wann er gestorben ist.
