Biographical Presentation
Arbogastes, ein Franke in römischem Dienst. Gratian sandte ihn 380 aus Italien nach Thracien um Theodosius den Großen zu retten, der von den Gothen hart bedrängt wurde. Den größten Einfluß hatte er am Hofe Valentinians II., fiel dann aber in Ungnade und wurde beschuldigt den Tod desselben veranlaßt zu haben (Vienne 302). Jedenfalls unterstützte er gegen den Willen des Theodosius den Eugenius als Nachfolger von Valentinian II. und da Theodosius siegte, tödtete er sich selbst 394.
