Biographical Presentation
Mangold: Maximus M., Bruder des Vorigen, geb. im J. 1722 in Rehlingen, † am 23. März 1797 in Augsburg, übernahm (1757) in Ingolstadt die Professur der Philosophie, hierauf (1763) einen theologischen Lehrstuhl, und wurde zum Provincial der Provincia Rhenana des Jesuitenordens ernannt, in welcher Würde ihn das Jahr 1773 traf, worauf er sich nach Augsburg zurückzog. Er schrieb „Philosophia recentior praelectionibus publicis accommodata“ (1763 f.), worin durchgehends die übliche Jesuitenlehre waltet, und Reflexiones in Alexandri a S. Joanne Carmelitae continuationem historiae ecclesiasticae Claudii Fleurii abbatis“ (1783—86, 3 Bde.), woran sich eine heftige Polemik knüpfte, da im J. 1784 eine anonyme Schrift „Anti-Mangoldus sive vindiciae historiae ecclesiasticae Claudii Fleurii“ erschien, in welcher die jesuitische Behandlung der Kirchengeschichte näher beleuchtet wurde, worauf M. Fleurianae Pappenliemii“ beifügte. Außerdem veröffentlichte er: „Origo collegii Societatis Jesu ad S. Salvatorem Augustae Vindelicorum“ (1786).
