  • Biographical Presentation

    Cothmann: Dr. Ernst C., geb. 6. Dec. 1557 zu Lemgo in Westfalen, studirte in Helmstädt, Marburg, seit 1581 in Rostock und, nachdem er hier am 8. October 1584 promovirt hatte, in Wittenberg, 1586 habilitirte er sich in Rostock, wurde 1587 Assessor beim Hofgericht und später beim Consistorium, auch Land- und Hofrath des Herzogs Ulrich von Mecklenburg-Güstrow. 1595 übernahm er die Professur der Rechte in Rostock, wurde 1603 Kanzler des Herzogs Karl und seit 1611 des Herzogs Johann Albrecht II. zu Mecklenburg-Güstrow. Als solcher starb er am 13. April 1624. — Von seinen Schriften sind die bedeutenderen: „Responsa juris sive consilia V. voluminibus comprehensa", 1597. 1615. 1662. — „Liber singularis reponsorum juris et consultationum academicarum". 1613. 1662. — „Institutiones imperiales Justinianeae“, 1614. 1617. 1624. — „Comment. in librum cod. Justinianeae primum“, 1616. — Ein Verzeichniß der Schriften findet sich im mecklenb. Gel. Lex. IV. S. 133.
