Biographical Presentation
Wolff: Friedrich Benjamin W., Chemiker, geboren am 7. September 1766 (oder 1765) zu Polnisch-Lissa, † am 19. Januar 1845 in Berlin. Nach seiner Promotion zum Dr. phil. bekleidete er erst die Stelle eines Adjuncten, dann (1800) eines Professors der Mathematik und Physik am Joachimsthal’schen Gymnasium zu Berlin bis 1831, wo er sie niederlegte. Außerdem war er von 1820 an bis zu seinem Tode Professor der Logik und Mathematik an der medicinisch-chirurgischen Militärakademie daselbst, ferner fungirte er seit 1811 als Mitglied der technischen Gewerbe- und Handelsdeputation im Handelsministerium. Er gab zusammen mit M. h. Klaproth ein „Chemisches Wörterbuch“ (5 Bde., Berlin 1807—1810) heraus, verfaßte ein „Lehrbuch der Chemie“ (Berlin 1818—1821) und fertigte zahlreiche Uebersetzungen.
