Biographical Presentation
Herrenschwand: Johann Friedrich H., Arzt, älterer Bruder des Vorigen, geb. zu Murten 1715, studirte Medicin im Ausland, ward 1764 Leibarzt Königs Stanislaus August von Polen und mit polnischem Indigenat beschenkt, auch Leibarzt Herzogs Friedrich III. von Gotha. 1779 vom Stande Bern zu einer Consultation berufen, ließ er sich dort nieder, erhielt 1793 das Berner Bürgerrecht und † 1798. Sein „Plan zur Einführung der Arzneikunst im Königreich Polen“ ist in Swieten's Wiener Diarium von 1768 mitgetheilt. Sein „Traité des principales et des plus fréquentes maladies externes et internes“ (1788) ist ein Buch auf rein empirischer Grundlage nach Art eines modernen „Haus- und Familienarzt“. Das „Herrenschwandpulver“ gegen den Bandwurm trägt von ihm seinen Namen. Bei Meusel (Gel. Teutschl.) und anderwärts werden ihm irrigerweise die Schriften seines Bruders beigelegt, (Vgl. v. Inama im obenst. Artikel). Ein Sohn Herrenschwand's, Johann Anton H., war 1813 schweizerischer Divisionär in Basel.
