    Geritz: Joseph Ambrosius G., Bischof von Ermland, geb. am 3. Aug. 1783 in Seeburg, † am 16. Aug. 1867 in Frauenburg. Er besuchte die lateinische Schule zu Rössel, das akademische Gymnasium zu Braunsberg und die von den Piaristen geleitete theologische Akademie zu Warschau und wurde am 5. April 1806 zu Frauenburg zum Priester geweiht. Er blieb dort als Domvicar, wurde 1823 Domcapitular, 1835 Domdechant, 1840 Weihbischof. Am 21. Juni 1841 wurde er zum Bischof von Ermland gewählt, am 26. Juni 1842 inthronisirt. Er verwaltete sein Amt milde und verständig über 25 Jahre. Sein nicht unbedeutendes Vermögen verwendete er größtentheils zu kirchlichen und wohlthätigen Zwecken. Im J. 1848 wurde er im Ermland zum Abgeordneten für das Frankfurter Parlament gewählt, nahm aber nur bis zum October an den Verhandlungen desselben Theil.
