    Cartheuser: Friedrich August C., Sohn von Johann Friedrich C. (s. d.), Chemiker, verdient um die mineralogische Chemie, geb. zu Halle 1734, zu Schierstein in Nassau 12 Dec. 1796, Dr. med. Docent in Frankfurt a/O. Professor der Naturlehre an der Universität zu Gießen, dann darmstädtischer Bergrath und nassauischer Geheimrath, später privatisirend bei Idstein, Birkenbach u. a. Stellte die chemischen Kennzeichen von Mineralien fest, untersuchte Flußmittel, die Verfälschung des Weines etc. Außer Lehrbüchern: „Elementamineralogiae systematicae“, 1755. „Elementa Oryctographiae“, 1755, werden in Meusel's Lexikon und Poggendorff's Handwörterbuch viele Abhandlungen Cartheuser's aufgeführt.
