Biographical Presentation
Olearius: Johann Gottfried O., Sohn von Gottfried O. (geb. 1604, † 1685, s. o. S. 276), Enkel von Johann O. (geb. 1546, † 1623), wurde zu Halle a. S. am 25. September 1635 geboren, wo sein Vater damals Pastor zu St. Ulrich war. Er besuchte das Gymnasium in Halle, studirte sodann von 1653 an in Leipzig, wo er 1656 Magister ward. Im J. 1658 ward er in Halle Adjunct. 1662 Diaconus und 1685 Inspector der zweiten Diöcese des Saalkreises. Im J. 1688 ward er Superintendent und Consistorialrath in Arnstadt, wo er am 21. Mai 1711 starb. Er war ein gelehrter Theologe, hat aber in seinen jüngeren Jahren auch geistliche Lieder gedichtet, welche er im J. 1664 unter dem Titel „Primitiae poeticae“ herausgab; von ihnen haben einige weitere Verbreitung gefunden, wie namentlich sein Lied: „Geht ihr traurigen Gedanken, die ihr mir mein Herz beschwert“, welches Freylinghausen in sein Gesangbuch aufgenommen hat. Unter seinen wissenschaftlichen Werken ist zu nennen der „Abacus patrologicus“, Jena 1673, eine Uebersicht über das Leben und die Schriften der Kirchenväter, in zweiter erweiterter Auflage von seinem Sohn Johann Gottlieb (vgl. unten S. 283) im J. 1711 in zwei Bänden unter dem Titel „Bibliotheca, scriptorum ecclesiasticorum“ herausgegeben. — Er war viermal verheirathet und hatte 17 Kinder.
