Biographical Presentation
Prasse: Moritz v. P., Mathematiker, geb. 1769 in Dresden, † am 21. Jan. 1814 in Leipzig. Prasse's ganze gelehrte Laufbahn verlief in Leipzig, wo er 1795 den Titel eines Magisters, 1796 die Stellung eines Docenten erwarb; 1798 wurde er außerordentlicher, 1799 ordentlicher Professor der Mathematik. Er gehörte, gleich den meisten seiner damaligen deutschen Fachgenossen, der combinatorischen Schule an, mit deren Hilfsmitteln er in seinen „Commentationes mathematicae I.“ (1804) und II. (1812) sich vertraut zeigte. Die heutige Zeit dürfte kaum einen der Beweise anerkennen, auf deren Strenge man sich damals zu gut that. Große Verbreitung scheinen Prasse's „Institutiones analyticae“ (1813) gehabt zu haben, ein Lehrbuch der Analysis mit Einschluß der Differential- und Integralrechnung und — wie in der Vorrede ausdrücklich gesagt ist — mit Beschränkung des Stoffes auf das, was in dem kleineren Lehrbuche von Lacroix enthalten sei, was ja allen billigen Ansprüchen genüge.
