  • Biographical Presentation

    Murer: Josyas M., Glasmaler, geb. zu Zürich 1564, † 1630. Sohn des Jos oder Jost M. und Bruder des Christoph M. 1613 Mitglied des Rathes, 1614 Amtmann im Cappelerhof in Zürich. Seine besten Arbeiten kommen an Feinheit der Ausführung und Virtuosität der Technik denen seines Bruders gleich, an dessen Weise bei allerdings gesteigerter Manier auch der Stil der Zeichnung und die Art der Composition erinnert. Zahlreiche Arbeiten mittelmäßigen Ranges, die augenscheinlich aus Josyas Werkstätte stammen, scheinen auf einen schwunghaften Atelierbetrieb zu deuten. Tüchtige Werke mit des Meisters Monogramm versehen, sind die Zürcherischen Zunftscheiben in dem fürstlich Fürstenbergischen Schloße Heiligenberg.
