  • Biographical Presentation

    J. wurde 1470 Domherr in Mainz, studierte seit 1474 in Basel (Rektor 1480, Lic. iur. 1482) und wurde 1497 Domdekan in Mainz. Nach Berthold v. Hennebergs Tod wurde J. am 30.12.1504 zum Erzbischof gewählt (als erster aus dem Ritterstand) und erhielt nach der Bestätigung durch Julius II. am 22.7.1505 die Bischofsweihe. Im Auftrag Maximilians I. schlichtete er 1505 die Streitigkeiten um die Gfsch. Dietz und die Abtei Limburg. Auf dem Reichstag von Konstanz mit der endgültigen Festsetzung der Reichsmatrikel und des Reichskammergerichts erhielt er 1507 die Regalien und unterstützte den geplanten Romzug des Kaisers. Eine Hofordnung für das Erzstift erließ er 1505. Nachdrücklich war er um die Klosterreform bemüht und wurde 1506 in die Bursfelder Kongregation aufgenommen. Sein Hofmaler war Matthias Grünewald.
