    Bischoff: Melchior B., geb. 20. Mai 1547 zu Pößneck und gestorben 19. Dec. 1614 zu Coburg, ein armer Schuhmachers-Sohn, aber zu reicher Wirksamkeit als Schriftsteller, Kirchenliederdichter und Componist emporgearbeitet, begann 1565 als Schulmeister zu Rudolstadt, dann Cantor in Altenburg, Diakonus in Pößneck, Pfarrer zu Geckenheim, Tundorf, Pößneck, 1590 Hofprediger zu Coburg, Superintendent zu Eisfeld und endlich General-Superintendent zu Coburg. Seine Schriften, Lieder und Musikalien sind verzeichnet in Thomä, „Licht am Abend“ 375—380; Jöcher; Bodenschatz, Florilegium; Prinz, Mus.-Hist.; Wetzel, Liederhistorie I. 156.
