  • Biographical Presentation

    Jacobsz: Jurian J., Historien- und Thiermaler, geb. zu Hamburg (um 1610?). Houbraken beschäftigt sich an zwei Stellen mit ihm, das erstemal läßt er ihn in der Schweiz geboren sein und 1664 in Amsterdam an der Pest sterben, das zweitemal nennt er ihn einen geborenen Hamburger, der zu Leeuwarden 1685 stirbt. Es wird sich wol um zwei Personen handeln, davon der|eine Jurian, der andere (nach Kramm) Julian hieß. Ersterer hatte, um Studien zu machen, die Schweiz bereist, dann bei Fr. Snyders Unterricht im Thiermalen genommen. Houbraken lobt besonders sein Bild: „Venus und Adonis“. In Dresden ist wol sein Hauptwerk im Charakter des Snyders: ein Wildschwein wird von Hunden gepackt, bezeichnet 1660. Sonst fehlen nähere Angaben.
