Biography
Das Geschlecht stammt aus Sachsen und beginnt seine Stammreihe mit Gregor Kotte (gestorben vor Oktober 1615), Berg- und Gerichstgeschworener in Berggießhübel. Ein Zusammenhang mit den Cotta aus Thüringen besteht nicht. Der württembergische Zweig der Familie stammt ab von dem Buchhändler →Johann Georg (1631–92), der nach Tübingen zog und dort 1659 die Witwe des akademischen Buchhändlers Philibert Brunn († 1658) heiratete.
