Biographical Presentation
Pfeffel: Johann Andreas P., Kupferstecher und Verleger, geb. 1674 zu Bischoffingen bei Breifach, bildete sich auf der Akademie zu Wien und erhielt den Titel eines kaiserlichen Hofkupferstechers, ließ sich dann in Augsburg nieder, wo er einen schwunghaften Kunsthandel betrieb. In seinem Verlag erschien das seiner Zeit berühmte Bibelwerk des Joh. Jak. Scheuchzer und andere Werke, wofür er verschiedene Stecher, darunter auch seinen gleichnamigen Sohn, geb. 1715 zu Augsburg. † 1768, verwandte. Der Vater P. starb im J. 1750. Er stach im Sinne seiner Zeit alles Mögliche: Porträts, Ansichten, Decorationen, Thesen etc. Da diese Blätter sich keineswegs über das Gewöhnliche erheben, genügt es auf Nagler's Künstlerlexikon zu verweisen, wo eine Reihe aufgeführt ist.
