Schule Kairos seiner Zeit ; lehrte als mālikit. Prof. u.a. an der Ṣāliḥīya-madrasa ; sehr angesehener Rechtstheoretiker ; weswegen viele bei ihm uṣūl al-fiqh studieren wollten ; auch in furūʿ al-fiqh versiert (verfasste in diesem Bereich "aḏ-Ḏāḫira") ; befasste sich auch mit anderen Wissensgebieten ; u.a. Augenheilkunde und Astronomie (in "al-Aǧwiba al-fāḫira ʿan al-asʾila al-fāǧira") ; verfasste u.a. auch "Kitāb al-iḥkām fī tamyīz al-fatāwā ʿan al-aḥkām wa-taṣarrufāt al-qāḍī wa-'l-imām" ; "Kitāb al-furūq" (über qawāʿid/Rechtsgrundsätze) ; "Nafāʾis al-uṣūl fī ʿilm al-uṣūl" (Kommentar zu Faḫr-ad-Dīn ar-Rāzīs "al-Maḥṣūl" ; über uṣūl al-fiqh) und dessen Kurzform "Šarḥ tanqīḥ al-fuṣūl"
