  • Biography

    B. war 1406 Student in Erfurt, 1408 in Prag und 1411 in Leipzig, wo er 1412 promovierte. Als Domherr von Brandenburg wird er 1415 erstmalig genannt. Das Amt eines bischöflichen Generalvikars wurde ihm 1415 übertragen, zum Propst des Domkapitels St. Peter auf der Burg Brandenburg wählte man ihn 1419. Von Papst Martin V. 1421 zum Bischof von Brandenburg vorgeschlagen, erhielt er 1422 die Weihe. Als Rat des Kurfürsten wurde er mit Staatsangelegenheiten betraut (Friede zu Eberswalde mit Pommern 1427). Papst Calixt III. ernannte ihn 1456 zum Konservator der Universität Greifswald. - B. bemühte sich während seines Wirkens als Bischof um die seelsorgliche Förderung seines Bistums, seine Synodalstatuten zeugen von reformatorischem Eifer. Er war einer der wenigen Kenner der hebräischen Sprache des Mittelalters in Brandenburg; in seiner Gelehrsamkeit überragte er alle anderen Bischöfe des Brandenburger Bistums.
