  • Biographical Presentation

    Backer: Jakob B., holländischer Maler, geb. zu Harlingen ums J. 1609, hielt sich in Amsterdam auf. Seinen Ruf verdankt er hauptsächlich den Bildnissen, die er mit solider Tüchtigkeit und zugleich rascher Vollendung anzufertigen wußte: ein künstlerischer Nachkömmling des Frans Hals, doch zugleich berührt vom Einflusse Rembrandt's. Er malte übrigens auch Historienbilder, die, gleich seinen Portraits, mit derber Natürlichkeit gemalt sind. Er starb den 17. Aug. 1651 im 42. Lebensjahre.
