  • Biographical Presentation

    A. ging 1888 zur Universität, um Chemie, Physik und Mathematik zu studieren. In Leipzig hörte er bei J. Wislicenus und W. Ostwald und in Breslau von 1890 an bei A. Ladenburg. 1893 promovierte er, 1894-1903 war er in den Blaukali-Fabriken in Edenkoben (Pfalz) und Krefeld tätig. 1903-04 arbeitete er im physkalisch-chemischen Laboratorium von R. Abegg in Breslau. 1904 trat er als Hilfsarbeiter in das Reichsgesundheitsamt; anfänglich fast ausschließlich mit chemischen Problemen beschäftigt, war er später als Regierungsrat und Oberregierungsrat in zunehmendem Maße durch Verwaltungsaufgaben in Anspruch genommen. – Eine große Anzahl seiner Arbeiten war Vergiftungsfragen gewidmet, vor allem der Frage der Bleivergiftung. Mit Abegg gab er seit 1908 das Handbuch für anorganische Chemie heraus und wurde nach dessen Tode 1910 alleiniger Redakteur.
