    Schaumann: Johann Christian Gottl. S., geboren zu Husum in Schleswig 1768, anfangs Lehrer am königl. Pädagogium zu Halle, dann Privatdocent an der dortigen Universität, seit 1794 ordentlicher Professor der Philosophie in Gießen, seit 1805 auch Pädagogiarch, starb 1821. Erst im Geiste der Kantischen Philosophie, später unter Anschluß an Fichte, veröffentlichte er zahlreiche Schriften über die verschiedensten Gebiete der Philosophie. U. A.: „Ueber die transcendentale Aesthetik; ein kritischer Versuch" 1789; „Psyche oder Unterhaltungen über die Seele", 1791. „Wissenschaftliches Naturrecht", 1792. „Ideen zu einer Criminalpsychologie", 1792. „Elemente der allgemeinen Logik und kurzer Abriß der Metaphysik", 1795. „Versuch eines neuen Systems des natürlichen Rechts“, 1796. „Erklärung über Fichte's Appellation und über die Anklagen gegen die Philosophie“, 1799. Auch schrieb er in Niethammer's philosophischem Journal.
