  • Biographical Presentation

    Nothnagel: Johann Andreas Benjamin N., Sohn des Pfarrers zu Buch am Forst (Bezirksamt Lichtenfels, Oberfranken), geb. im März 1729, kam 1747 nach Frankfurt a. M. in die Tapetenfabrik des Joh. Nic. Lentzner als Malergehülfe. Nach Lentzner's Tode heirathete N. 1750 dessen Wittwe und gab durch Kunstsinn und Geschmack der Fabrik eine große Ausdehnung, sodaß er mit 50 Gehülfen arbeitete und von Kaiser Leopold II. ein Privilegium für seine Fabrik erhielt. Aus Goethe's Leben (III. Buch) ist bekannt, daß er daneben seine eigentliche Kunstthätigkeit nicht vernachlässigte und für den Grafen Thorane arbeitete. Er starb am 22. December 1804. Seine Kunstwerke hat Gwinner verzeichnet.
