  • Biographical Presentation

    Die Familie, in Piemont und Coni ansässig (Etienne Li Forti oder Lifforti stand um 1496 im Kriegsdienst des Hzg. Philibert von Savoyen), wanderte 1560 ihres calvinist. Glaubens wegen nach Genf aus, wo sie bereits 1565 das Bürgerrecht erwarb, ihre Mitglieder Stadtsenatoren wurden und den ital. Namen in Le Fort umwandelten. 1698 wurde der Adel von Kaiser Leopold I. bestätigt. In Genf wurde →Jacques (1757–1826) Professor der Rechte, Gerichtsdirektor und Staatsrat, →Jean Louis (1786–1874) Professor der Rechte und Staatsschreiber 1833–46, →Charles (1821–88) Professor der Rechte und Präsident des Kassationshofs. Über Rußland (François, 1656-99, Admiral Peters d. Großen und Vizekönig von Nowgorod, und Pierre, 1676-1754, russ. Generalleutnant und Gouverneur von Livland) kam ein Zweig der Familie nach dem Nord. Kriege nach Deutschland und erwarb in Mecklenburg Landbesitz. Der deutsche Zweig der Familie behielt das Genfer Bürgerrecht, schrieb sich fortan aber mit einem kleinen „l“. Einige kämpften in der Franz. Revolution für Ludwig XVI. Zur Familie gehört auch der Lyriker →Franz (1868–1932).
