Biographical Presentation
Wolf: Kaspar W., hervorragender philologischer Mediciner des 16. Jahrhunderts, geboren 1525 in Zürich und daselbst als Professor der Physik und der griechischen Sprache 1601 verstorben, war der Nachfolger seines Freundes Konrad Geßner. Seine Studien hatte er in Montpellier gemacht und hier auch 1558 die medicinische Doctorwürde erlangt. Er ist Verfasser eines sehr geschätzten gynäkologischen Sammelwerks, betitelt: „Volumen gynaeciorum de mulierum gravidarum, parturientium et aliarum natura et morbis“ (Basel 1566, 1586; Straßburg 1597). In dieser Sammlung sind Bruchstücke aus den Werken mehrerer altgriechischer, sowie einiger neuerer Autoren enthalten. Ferner schrieb W.: „Viaticum novum de omnium fere particularium morborum curatione“ (Zürich 1565, 1578); „Alphabetum empiricum sive Dioscoridis et Stephani Atheniensis de remediis expertis liber“ (ebd. 1581). In diesen und anderen Schriften zeigt sich W. als gelehrter Arzt und Philologe, besonders als Kenner des Griechischen.
