  • Biographical Presentation

    H. war Schüler seines Vaters und wurde um 1750 Hofmaler des Fürstbischofs F. C. von Rodt in Konstanz. Als Freskant und Maler hauptsächlich von Altargemälden war er im Bodenseegebiet und im Breisgau tätig. Seine bedeutendsten Leistungen auf dem Gebiet des kirchlichen Freskos befinden sich in der ehemaligen Kartäuserkirche in Ittingen/Kt. Thurgau (1763/64), im ehemaligen Augustinerkloster Kreuzlingen/Kt. Thurgau (um 1765/67) und in der ehemaligen Wallfahrtskirche in Kirchberg/Kt. Sankt Gallen (1784/05). H. gilt als das bedeutendste Glied der Künstlerfamilie Hermann; er führte deren malerische Tradition bis zum frühen Klassizismus fort.
