  • Biographical Presentation

    H. studierte in Bologna (1304), seit 1307 erscheint er als Domherr zu Speyer, später wurde er dort Domscholaster und Propst von Sankt German. Seit 1317 war er Kanzler Ludwigs des Bayern. Am 30.7.1333 wählte ihn in dessen Anwesenheit die Majorität des Würzburger Domkapitels – darunter Lupold von Bebenburg – zum Nachfolger Bischof Wolframs von Grumbach. Der Mainzer Administrator, EB Balduin von Trier, bestätigte ihn, während Papst Johannnes XXII. den Minderheitskandidaten Otto von Wolfskeel providierte, gegen den H. sich behaupten konnte. In Reichsangelegenheiten trat er nur noch bei der erfolglosen Belagerung von Meersburg (Mai 1334) durch Ludwig den Bayern in Erscheinung. Der bis zu seinem Ende von päpstlichen Sentenzen Verfolgte versuchte mit Erfolg – sein Hauptratgeber scheint Lupold von Bebenburg gewesen zu sein – seine Stellung in Bistum und Hochstift zu festigen. Sein Tod aber machte bald die Bahn für Otto von Wolfskeel frei.
