  • Biographical Presentation

    J. ist der Stammvater der gleichnamigen niederbayer. Bildhauerfamilie, die ursprünglich in Böhmen beheimatet war. Vornbach am Inn war offenbar die letzte Station seiner Wanderjahre, bevor er sich um 1720 in Griesbach im Rottal als Bildhauer niederließ. Dort erwarb er 1725 ein Haus und gründete eine Bildhauerwerkstätte, die vor allem den Landkreis Griesbach mit Werken kirchlicher Ausstattungskunst versah. Seinem Stil zufolge ist zu vermuten, daß J. durch die Schule der gotisierenden Barockbildhauer des Innviertels hindurchgegangen ist, doch können auch bisher unbekannte böhm. Vorbilder für ihn in Frage gekommen sein.
