Biographical Presentation
B., der Archidiakon in Dortmund und 37 Jahre Kanoniker und Dechant bei S. Maria ad Gradus in Köln war, verfaßte außer einigen asketisch-hagiographischen Schriften den Text zu dem großen Kupferstichwerk „Civitates orbis terrarum“ (Köln 1572-1618, 6 Bände, Kupferstiche von →Franz Hogenberg u. a.), das „zum ersten Male die wichtigsten Städte der Welt in kartographisch und topographisch klarer und anschaulicher Weise dem Geographen, dem Historiker, dem Volkskundler, dem Reisenden und nicht zuletzt dem Sammler und Liebhaber vor Augen stellt“ (W. Bruhn).
