  • Biographical Presentation

    Bettendorf war 1861-63 erster Assistent bei Hans Landolt in Bonn. Dann widmete er sich als Privatgelehrter hauptsächlich der Erforschung der „seltenen Erden“, als deren bester Kenner er galt. Außerdem beschäftigte er sich eingehend mit Arsen. Er entdeckte 1867 das reguläre gelbe Arsen und gab 1869 als empfindliches Reagens auf Arsen eine Lösung von Zinn (II)-Chlorid (Zinnchlorür) in rauchender Salzsäure an:„Bettendorfs Reagens“.
