  • Biographical Presentation

    F. studierte in Berlin und Greifswald Naturwissenschaften, wurde Assistent an der Landwirtschaftlichen Versuchsstation Möckern und setzte 1868/69 seine anatomischen und physiologischen Studien in Berlin fort. Anschließend war er Assistent an den Versuchsstationen Hohenheim und Weende-Göttingen sowie Vorsteher der Versuchsstation in Bonn. Unter seiner Leitung (1877–92) erhob sich die Moorversuchsstation Berlin zu ihrer heutigen Bedeutung und Ausdehnung. Als Professor (1891) an der Landwirtschaftlichen Hochschule in Berlin (Rektor 1897/98) war F. zugleich Mitglied der Zentral-Moor-Kommission und Berater der Moorversuchsstation in Bremen. 1898-1910 war F. vortragender Rat im Ministerium für Landwirtschaft, Domänen und Forsten.
