  • Biographical Presentation

    E. erfuhr seine Ausbildung in Prag. 1869 erfolgte seine Promotion, 1872 seine Habilitierung für pathologische Anatomie; in der Nachfolge seines Lehrers W. Treitz supplierte er dessen Lehrkanzel, bis im Oktober 1873 E. Klebs berufen wurde, dem er als Assistent weiter zur Verfügung stand. 1875 wurde er außerordentlicher Professor, 1882 erhielt er als Ordinarius eine Berufung nach Graz. 1912 trat er in den Ruhestand. – E. beschäftigte sich vorwiegend mit bakteriologischen Fragen. Bei der Hadernkrankheit konnte er nachweisen, daß es sich um eine Infektion durch Einatmung von Milzbrandsporen handelt, die zum Ausgangspunkt einer Allgemeininfektion werden kann. Er beschrieb als erster das embolisch-mykotische Aneurysma und eine pathogene Cladothrix als Ursache einer Pseudotuberkulose. Sein Interesse an der Genese des Ikterus veranlaßte ihn, seinen Sohn zu dessen epochalen Arbeiten auf dem Gebiete der Leberkrankheiten anzuregen.|
