  • Biographical Presentation

    F. studierte Schiff- und Schiffsmaschinenbau an der TH Berlin und erhielt 1888 das Diplom für beide Fachrichtungen. Er war dann in den Werften bei E. Berninghaus in Duisburg, Joseph L. Meyer in Papenburg und Blohm & Voss in Hamburg tätig. 1892 wurde er zum Dozenten, 1894 zum Professor und 1897 zum ordentlichen Professor für Theorie und Entwerfen von Schiffen an der TH Berlin ernannt. Seine|Forschungstätigkeit umfaßte die Verbesserung der Schraubenpropeller, die Stabilität der Schiffe und die Entwicklung der U-Boote. Auf sein Betreiben wurde 1902 der Bau der Schiffbau-Versuchsanstalt auf der Schleuseninsel in Berlin begonnen. – Frühzeitig übernahm er die Schriftleitung der Zeitschrift „Schiffbau, Schiffahrt und Hafenbau“ und veröffentlichte zahlreiche Aufsätze in den obengenannten Gebieten. F. war Mitbegründer der Schiffbautechnischen Gesellschaft und des Flottenvereins.
