  • Biographical Presentation

    B. war bis 1874 Oberlehrer in Berlin, Anklam und Stettin, dann Sektionschef im Hydrographischen Amt der Admiralität in Berlin. Durch die Redaktion der „Annalen der Hydrographie und maritimen Meteorologie“ (1875-84) sowie der „Nachrichten für Seefahrer“ (1874-84) und durch selbständige Bearbeitung und Sammlung von Beobachtungen förderte er in hohem Maße die maritime Meteorologie und Ozeanographie. Er veröffentlichte 1884 den 1. Band eines „Handbuches der Ozeanographie“ (Räumliche, physikalische und chemische Beschaffenheit der Ozeane), das von O. Krümmel durch den 2. Band (Die Bewegungsformen des Meeres) 1887 vollendet wurde.
