  • Biographical Presentation

    B., ein geborener Sachse, war Schüler Meinhards von Bamberg und Adalberts von Konstanz, unter Bischof Rumold Domscholaster in Konstanz und ab 1072 in Hildesheim. Er zeichnete sich durch eine reiche klassische und kanonistische Bildung aus und verfaßte als entschiedener Parteigänger Gregors VII. den sog. sächsischen Bericht von 1085 über die Tagung von Gerstungen Berka (erhalten im Annalista Saxo und den Magdeburger Annalen), und den Liber canonum contra Henricum IV., der zuerst Altmann von Passau zugeschrieben wurde. Mit seinem Schüler Bernold von Konstanz und Adalbert von Konstanz führte er den Briefwechsel De damnatione schismaticorum. Er gilt als Urheber der Hildesheimer Briefsammlung. Nach 1085 trat er in ein sächsisches Kloster, vielleicht Corvey, ein, wo er um 1088 starb.
