  • Biographical Presentation

    Über das Leben D.s ist nur sehr wenig bekannt. 1589-94 war er Kantor in Lüneburg an Sankt Johannis und wurde im gleichen Jahr zum 3. Prediger an Sankt Lamberti daselbst gewählt. Schon früh mit humanistischem Gedankengut vertraut, huldigte D. mit seinem bekannteren Werk „Antidota“ in Form und Inhalt diesen Idealen und ihren moralisierenden Tendenzen. Der lateinische Text, in Form der Epigramme, wird bei ihm in 12 Abschnitte gegliedert (Bicinien und Tricinien) und in reinem polyphonen-motettischen Satz komponiert. Der Text ist der der „Antidota“, die dem Johannes Damascenus zugeschrieben wird. Es handelt sich um Sentenzen, die Willibald Pirkheimer ins Lateinische übersetzte. Als solche wurden sie erstmals von Caspar Othmayr in seinen Tricinien 1549 mehrstimmig - im Gegensatz zu D. in 30 selbständigen Sätzen - vertont.
