  • Biographical Presentation

    Die Familie kam 1583/85 aus Skandinavien nach Elbing, war hier bis um 1800 ansässig und stellte mehrere Bürgermeister. Im 18. Jahrhundert besaß sie das sogenannte „Königshaus“ (Alter Markt 14), das Absteigequartier der polnischen Könige. Zu ihr gehören: →Waldemar (1854–98), Redakteur der Magdeburgischen Zeitung, Verfasser zahlreicher kultur- und literaturgeschichtlicher Aufsätze sowie Arbeiten zur Reformationsgeschichte (siehe Werke, Literatur), und dessen Bruder →Georg (1856–1909), Dr. phil. honoris causa, Archäologe (siehe Werke, Literatur). Er half 1885 Schliemann bei der Ausgrabung von Tiryns, vermaß 1885-90 die Akropolis und führte andere technische Arbeiten im Auftrage der Griechischen Archäologischen Gesellschaft aus. 1894-97 war er Architekt an der Anatolischen|Bahn, unternahm später mit Th. Wiegand Ausgrabungen in Milet und Pergamon und richtete die Säulen des Heratempels in Olympia wieder auf.
