Biographical Presentation
Westfälisches Uradelsgeschlecht, benannt nach der kurkölnischen Landesburg Fürstenberg Kreis Arnsberg. Reichsfreiherrenstand 1660, preußischer Grafenstand 1840/43. Erbdroste des Herzogtums Westfalen. – Zur Familie gehören auch: Der kurkölnische Rat →Friedrich (1510–67) und seine Söhne Dietrich († 1618), Bischof von Paderborn (s. NDB IV) und →Caspar (1545–1618), der kurkölnische Droste, Rat von Kölner und Mainzer Kurfürsten und von seinem Bruder war und von 1567 bis 1616 als Gesandter an allen Reichstagen teilnahm (s. ADB VIII), ferner Ferdinand († 1683), Bischof von Münster und Paderborn (s. NDB V).
