  • Biographical Presentation

    A. studierte Rechtswissenschaften in Halle, Leipzig, Genf und Berlin und habilitierte sich als preußischer Regierungsassessor 1896 in Berlin für Staatsrecht. Er wurde 1899 ordentlicher Professor in Tübingen, 1900 in Heidelberg und 1908 in Berlin, von wo er 1916 an die Universität Heidelberg zurückkehrte. A. las vor allem Staatsrecht, später auch deutsche Rechtsgeschichte und Kirchenrecht, nur vorübergehend auch Völkerrecht. Er war ein hervorragender akademischer Lehrer von ausgeprägt liberaler und demokratischer Gesinnung. Am bekanntesten wurde er durch seinen Kommentar der Weimarer Verfassung, der bis 1933 in 14 Auflagen erschien.
