  • Biographical Presentation

    St. Acarius: gleichzeitig Bischof von Doornik und Noyon. Er gehörte um 594 zur Schule des h. Columban. Die Zeit seiner Ernennung zum Bischof|steht nicht fest; aber 627 war er es. Er war ein eifriger Förderer des belg. Apostels St. Amand (s. d.), konnte aber trotz des Ansehens, welches er sonst bei König Dagobert besaß, diesen von St. Amand's Verbannung nicht zurückhalten. A., ein Mann von Talent und Bildung, hat offenbar große Verdienste um die Fortschritte des Christenthums im belg. Gallien. Sein Todestag ist wahrscheinlich der 27. Nov. 639; sehr bald nach seinem Tode schon ist er als Heiliger verehrt worden. (De Ram, Hagiogr. nat. I. 139.)
