    Bacherius: Peter B. (de Backer), Prediger und Dichter, geb. zu Gent in Flandern 1517, daselst 12. Febr. 1601. Er war Dominicaner, ein begabter und gefeierter Prediger und wirkte als solcher während 60 Jahre zu Gent, Brüssel, Antwerpen, Cleve, Kalkar, Dortrecht und im Haag; ein eifriger Gegner der Evangelischen. Er gab heraus: „Hortulus precum"; eine „Tabula sacrorum carininum“ 1579; „Enchiridion sacr. carminum et piarum precum"; „Tumultus Panicus, s. Belgium carmine heroico“. Außerdem eine Reihe von Homilien und Schriften zur Pastoral- und Moraltheologie; darunter „Speculum militiae Christianae“ 1592; „Spongia in ebriosos“ 1592; „Jurgium conjugale"; „De christiani principis vita, moribus, officio etc. (v. d. Aa, Biogr. Woordenb.)
