  • Biographical Presentation

    Schamberg: Johann Christian S., Arzt und Naturforscher, ist am 21. April 1667 in Leipzig geboren. Er studirte anfangs eine Zeit lang die Bergwissenschaften in Freiberg, darauf in Altdorf und Leyden Medicin mit solchem Erfolge, daß er bei seiner Rückkehr nach Leipzig am 5. October 1689 daselbst, vermuthlich mit der Abhandlung „De gustu ex recentiorum philosophorum hypothesi“, die Doctorwürde erlangen konnte. Darauf setzte er seine Studien fort und beschäftigte sich ganz besonders mit Geburtshülfe, prakt. Medicin und naturwissenschaftlichen Arbeiten. 1693 wurde er zum Assessor der medicinischen Facultät zu Leipzig ernannt. Später erhielt er hier successive die Lehrstühle der Chemie, Physiologie und Anatomie. Seinen Bemühungen verdankte Leipzig das erste anatomische Amphitheater. Er starb als Rector der Universität am 4. August 1706. S. war auch ein tüchtiger Chemiker. Seine Veröffentlichungen beschränkten sich auf einige wenige, kleinere Dissertationen und akademische Gelegenheits-Abhandlungen.
