  • Biographical Presentation

    L. absolvierte seine Studien in Kremsmünster und Salzburg, legte 1745 seine Profeß im Benediktinerkloster Kremsmünster ab und wurde 1750 zum Priester geweiht. Zwei Jahre war er Lehrer in den unteren Gymnasialklassen, 1753-59 dozierte er Philosophie an der Ritterakademie des Stiftes, deren Subregens er 1756 wurde. Seit 1757 lehrte er auch Mathematik und Experimentalphilosophie. 1760-87 wirkte er dann an der Benediktineruniversität Salzburg als Professor des Kirchenrechtes. 1766 übernahm er das Amt des Rektors, das er bis zuletzt innehatte. Während L.s Rektorat wurde der akademische Lehrplan umgestaltet und dabei mit der scholastischen Tradition gebrochen. Moraltheologie und Kirchengeschichte wurden zu wichtigen Bestandteilen des Theologiestudiums, dessen Zweck ja die Ausbildung des Geistlichen zum „moralischen Staatsbeamten“ war. Literarisch wandte sich L., beeinflußt vom Gallikanismus, im Sinne des Febronius gegen die Jurisdiktionsgewalt der Nuntien und nahm damit die Emser Punktationen voraus.
