    Taxis (Thurn und Taxis): Wilhelm Prinz von Th. u. T., geboren am 12. November 1801 zu Prag als der jüngste Sohn des Prinzen Maximilian Josef (S. 517), widmete sich gleich seinen fünf Brüdern der militärischen Laufbahn und wurde am 30. October 1844 Generalmajor der kaiserlich österreichischen Armee. Als er beim Sturm auf Vicenza seine Brigade gegen das Thor Santa Lucia führte, erhielt er einen Schuß in die Brust, an dessen Folgen er Tags darauf am 11. Juni 1848 fast in demselben Augenblick verschied, als sein Bruder Friedrich Hannibal (S. 492) zu Pferde steigen mußte, um den Einzug in das eroberte Vicenza zu halten. Kaiser Franz Josef ehrte das Andenken an den tapferen Prinzen, indem er im J. 1853 einen Kriegsdampfer auf dem Lago maggiore auf dessen Namen taufen ließ.
