  • Biographical Presentation

    D. ist, zunächst als Oberstleutnant, später als Generalleutnant und Chef des Ingenieurkorps mit elf seiner Ingenieuroffiziere der Schöpfer der kurhannoverischen Landesaufnahme aus den Jahren 1764-86, ein Werk des Absolutismus für Verwaltungs- und militärische Zwecke. Die topographische Karte 1: 21333⅓ (165 Blätter, Lichtdruckwiedergabe im Maßstab 1: 40 000, = Veröffentlichungen der Historischen Kommission für Niedersachsen 3, 1924-31, 156 Blätter), dem heutigen Meßtischblatt vergleichbar, bietet ein genaues Bild der Geländebeschaffenheit aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, also aus der Wende von der mittelalterlichen zur neuzeitlichen Kulturlandschaft, und darf heute als Ausgangspunkt für jede historisch-landeskundliche topographische Forschung gewertet werden. Aus ihr sind eine Militärkarte 1: 64 000 (35 Blätter) und eine Generalkarte 1: 192 000 (4 Blätter) herausgearbeitet worden.
