    Brandt: Wilhelm v. B., geb. 29. Septbr. 1644, † 1701. Sein Vater war kurbrandenburgischer Geheimrath in Küstrin. B. studirte in Frankfurt a./O., reiste dann in England und Holland und trat 1665 in des großen Kurfürsten Dienste. An den Feldzügen gegen Frankreich und Schweden nahm er Theil, wurde 1678 Oberstlieutenant des Derfflinger’schen Regiments und 1682 beauftragt, sich des Schlosses Greetsiel in Ostfriesland zu bemächtigen, was er glücklich ausführte. Als Oberst und Kammerherr ging er 1686 mit nach Ungarn und war bei der Belagerung von Ofen, wurde 1688 mit 6000 Mann Hülfsvölkern nach den Niederlanden, 1690 mit ebensoviel Truppen nach Ungarn gesandt, wo er sich bei Salankeni und Peterwardein auszeichnete. 1692 wurde er Gouverneur von Magdeburg und Generallieutenant, war 1693—1695 wieder mit 6000 Mann Hülfstruppen in Ungarn, ging 1696 nach Brabant und noch in demselben Jahre nach Preußen, um Elbing unter kurfürstliche Hoheit zu bringen, was er 1698 einnahm.
