    Hoffmann: Christ. Aug. Siegfried H., Mineraloge, Edelstein-Inspector und Administrator der akademischen Mineralienniederlage in Freiberg, geb. am 3. Juli 1760 zu Freiberg, † daselbst am 15. März 1813. H. machte seine Studien in Freiberg und widmete sich unter Werner vorzüglich dem Studium der Mineralogie; nach dessen Vortragen er das „Handbuch der Mineralogie“ in den zwei ersten Bänden 1811—13 (im III. und IV. Bande fortgesetzt und beendet von Breithaupt. 1816—18) ausarbeitete und publicirte. Mit Köhler besorgte H. die Herausgabe des „Bergmännischen Journals“, Bd. V und VI, und übernahm dann von 1800—1804 allein die Fortsetzung desselben. Mit Karsten gemeinschaftlich gab H. 1792 heraus: „Nachrichten von dem Mineralien-Cabinet des Propsts von Ohaim nach dem Werner’schen System“, welches durch zahlreiche Beispiele erläutert wird.
