Biographical Presentation
Du Roi: Johann Philipp Du R., geb. 2. Juni 1741 zu Braunschweig, studirte zu Helmstädt Arzneiwissenschaft, wurde dort 1764 Doctor der Medicin und im J. 1765 Aufseher der berühmten Pflanzung ausländischer Bäume und Gesträuche, welche der Hofrichter v. Veltheim bei seinem Gute Harbcke bei Helmstädt angelegt hatte. Im J. 1777 kehrte er nach seiner Vaterstadt zurück und ließ sich daselbst als praktischer Arzt nieder, wurde Garnisonsarzt, Stadtphysicus, Hofmedicus und Assessor bei dem Obersanitäts-Collegium und starb daselbst als vielbeschäftigter Arzt am 8. Dec. 1785. Sein Gönner, Herzog Ferdinand von Braunschweig, ließ ihm ein Denkmal errichten und sein von F. C. Krüger nach Joh. Schwarz gestochenes Bild befindet sich vor dem 25. Bande der Krünitz’schen Encyklopädie. Er schrieb außer seiner Doctordissertation: „De paralysi gravissima femorum crurumque sanata“, 1764, noch „Observationes botanicae“, 1771. 4, und „Die Harbckesche wilde Baumzucht“, 2 Bde. 1771. 72., 2. Aufl. von Pott, 1795—1800, 4 Bde. und viele Abhandlungen für das Hannoversche und Braunschweigische Magazin.
